DIY Halloween card for kids (2016)

DIY Halloween card for kids (2016)

I wanted this year’s card to be different than last year’s, because I’m giving the cards to a lot of the same kids. However, I had a lot of the same supplies to use up, so they ended up being similar!

I used:

  • dark purple cardstock (12″ x 12″) – I used my paper cutter to trim these to 4″ x 5.5″ to fit in envelopes
  • spooky ribbon to line the bottom of the card
    • Recollections “Halloween Boo” ribbon (pack of 5) [Michaels]
  • pumpkin letter sticker – but since I’ve run out of a bunch of letters, I didn’t always get to use the first letter of their name (as shown)
  • silver metallic Sharpie for the words I wrote on (child’s name and mine)
  • printed out spooky-lettered “Happy Halloween!” onto white card stock and rounded two opposite corners before gluing on
    • font: Nemo Nightmares [here]
    • Martha Stewart corner rounder [Michaels]
  • sparkly/gemstone pumpkin sticker [sheet of 25 stickers: Hobby Lobby]
  • envelopes – The Paper Studio value pack – 100 white [Hobby Lobby]
  • Elmer’s Craft Bond Extra strength glue stick – to affix white “Happy Halloween!” paper
  • Elmer’s Craft Bond quick dry dual-tip glue pen (the small side) -to affix ribbon

For the kids whose cards I will mail (not my students), I included a couple of sheets of stickers and a jack-o-lantern eraser. (stickers and erasers from Target – that section in the front where everything is only a few dollars)cig_img003

I also put a sticker on the back of the envelope.

For the kids whose cards I will hand-deliver (my students), I added stickers to the actual cards and that was that.

DIY birthday card with pinwheels

bday pinwheels

Materials:

  • Recollections Value Pack cards and envelopes set 5″ x 6.5″ (kraft) [Michaels]
  • Recollections Craft It 4-piece pinwheels [Michaels]
  • Doodlebug Design square sequins (Halloween assortment)
  • Light blue card stock
  • White card stock
  • Elmer’s Craft Bond Tacky Glue 4 fl oz
  • MS Word, printer ink,
  • paper cutter, scissors

OrganizationLove Pro Tips:

  • I cut out everything and then glued it on in the following order: white card stock (sticks), happy birthday, pinwheels (actually a sticker), sequins. This way everything was layered the way I wanted it to be.
  • I used liquid glue, but had to wipe up excess around the sequins and in the sequin hole – I just used my finger to get the excess
  • As always, I placed everything down where I wanted it before gluing

DIY cupcake birthday card for girls

card bday cupcake anyone all 3

Materials:

  • The Paper Studio value pack ivory notecard/envelope 4″x5.5″ [Michaels]
  • MS Word, printer, black ink
  • scalloped scissors
  • The Paper Studio “La Petites” 3-D cupcake stickers (6 piece) [Hobby Lobby]

OrganizationLove Pro Tips:

  • I chose to arrange the stickers at an angle as opposed to right next to each other to take up more space as well as account for imperfections
  • Instead of pairing same color cupcake wrappers, I made sure each card had a brown icing cupcake and a white icing cupcake

Caption Ideas:

  • Because there are already words on the front of the card, outer captions are not necessary
  • Inside notes:
    • Yum!
    • Don’t forget to share!
    • Happy birthday
    • Enjoy your day
    • Have a great day

DIY Happy Birthday card

happy birthday presents red 1

Materials:

  • The Paper Studio value pack ivory notecard/envelope 4″x5.5″ [Michaels]
  • Red printer paper
  • Janet Dunn Design present stamp
  • Ranger Archival Ink in “Jet Black”
  • Elmer’s Craft Bond Glue Pen 1 fl oz (dual sided, used the “wide spreader tip”
  • paper cutter

OrganizationLove Pro Tips:

  • I attempted to line up the long present stamp with the bottom of the card; this did not work well because the stamp itself was crooked, but not too bad at least
  • I cut a triangle of red printer paper to attach to the corner, and used a paper cutter to make a skinny line of red printer paper and glued to the bottom of the card
  • I mixed fonts for the words “happy” and “birthday” and I liked the way it looked
  • I attempted to color some presents/bows red in a previous attempt at the card, but I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would, so I kept the black and white

Caption Ideas:

  • Because there are already words on the front of the card, outer captions are not necessary
  • Inside notes:
    • Present time
    • Enjoy your day
    • Have a great day
    • Wishing the best for you

DIY Happy Birthday Sparkly Balloon card

red balloon happy birthday 1

Materials:

  • The Paper Studio value pack ivory notecard/envelope 4″x5.5″ [Michaels]
  • MS Word: Word Art (to print “happy birthday”)
  • Gemstones by Paper Studio Red Balloon Gem/Glitter sticker (Hobby Lobby)

OrganizationLove Pro Tips:

  • I designed the words “happy birthday” in Microsoft Word and printed directly on the card – I made the outline red to match the balloon
  • I got the balloon sticker on clearance from Hobby Lobby, so I don’t know if it’s still for sale. It was tough to arrange the balloon “string” to lie flat, but it was doable!

As you can see, there’s not a lot to this card!

Caption Ideas:

  • Because there are already words on the front of the card, outer captions are not necessary
  • Inside notes:
    • Have a great day
    • Hope your day is as amazing as you
    • Party time
    • Celebrate

DIY Congratulations on New Home card

DIY Congratulations on New Home cardMaterials:

  • Recollections Value Pack cards and envelopes in “Kraft” [Michaels]
  • Printer with black ink
  • Recollections Basic Bold 12″x12″ paper pad [Michaels]
  • Black fine point pen (chimney smoke and doorknob)
  • Elmer’s Craft Bond Tacky Glue 4 fl oz
  • Black fine point pen (chimney smoke and doorknob)
  • pencil, eraser, scissors, ruler

OrganizationLove Pro Tips:

  • When I design a new card in Microsoft Word, I always print on regular paper first before the actual card stock – to check if everything is centered and I am feeding the paper in the right way (trim paper to the size of the card you’re making)
  • I also make the shapes first on regular paper (not decorative) then trace onto backs of decorative paper with pencil before cutting out. For this card I traced the roof and body of the house (triangle and square.) I winged it with the chimney and door
  • If I made this card again, I would leave the doorknob off. I don’t like it a much as I thought I might

Caption Ideas:

  • Because there are already words on the front of the card, outer captions are not necessary
  • Inside notes:
    • So proud of you
    • Congratulations again
    • Enjoy your space
    • Can’t wait to visit

DIY Halloween Card

DIY Halloween card

Materials:

  • The Paper Studio Simply Solids box of cards (black card with envelope included) [Michaels]
  • Recollections “Halloween Boo” ribbon (pack of 5 – 3 shown) [Michaels]
  • Pumpkin / letter stickers
  • Fine silver Metallic Sharpie
  • Elmer’s Craft Bond Tacky Glue 4 fl oz
  • Halloween stickers (see Pro Tips*)

OrganizationLove Pro Tips:

  • Make sure you use plenty of glue on the ribbon. It’s heavier!
  • I don’t know where to find the pumpkin/letter stickers, they were a gift to me
  • The Happy Halloween ribbon says it repeatedly – I just used a little ribbon so it would only say “Happy Halloween” one time and include one jack-o-lantern
  • Metallic Sharpies are a great idea for dark paper or card stock! I used silver metallic Sharpie on the black card stock and it showed up great.
  • *I included Halloween stickers (on their backing) inside the card because I am delivering my cards to kids who love stickers

Caption Ideas:

  • Happy Halloween!
  • Enjoy your treats!
  • Trick or Treat!
  • I also included notes inside about “can’t wait to see pictures of your costumes” “enjoy the candy you receive” etc.
